Meet Anestassia Cuevas, Care Access Line (CAL) Specialist at Midland Care, who’s often the first voice callers hear and plays a key role in connecting clients to the right programs. Her calm demeanor and sincere care help every caller feel supported from the very start, making her contributions vital to our mission.

CAL Center Coordinator Susan Spielman shares, “Anestassia cares deeply, and her compassion seeps into the conversations she has with our CAL community. I believe there may even be a PACE participant or three who call to hear her calm voice and brighten their day. Add in her ornery sense of humor, and she fits perfectly into our puzzle. And I never let her get too hangry—lessons learned. Thanks, AC, for everything you do!”

This mix of warmth, steady presence, and humor makes Anestassia a natural fit for the CAL.

“I don’t wake up dreading coming to work.”

Before joining Midland Care, Anestassia spent 10 years in animal welfare, serving as an Animal Adoption Counselor and later an Animal Intake Counselor with Helping Hands Humane Society. She also worked in both front desk and kennel technician roles at Stone House Animal Hospital and Animal Care Center of Topeka. She attended Shawnee Heights High School, Highland Park High School, and later Washburn University, where she studied Criminal Justice with an emphasis in Law Enforcement.

Originally from Wichita, Kansas, Anestassia moved to Topeka after her father transitioned from his work as an aircraft mechanic at McConnell Air Force Base. She has lived in the Topeka area for most of her life.

Anestassia loves the supportive atmosphere at Midland Care—especially her team, the participants she speaks with daily, and the staff activities that make work enjoyable. “I don’t wake up dreading coming to work every day, and that’s important to me,” she shares, highlighting her appreciation for a positive and caring work environment.

Outside of work, Anestassia is a lifelong “car girl.” From Hot Wheels to muscle cars, she has always loved the car scene and even competed in show-and-sound competitions. Her passion has become a family hobby—her two oldest sons now compete in car shows with their own vehicles, and she recently took on a new project car. She is also fluent in Romani, a language she enjoys speaking and learning more about.

What brings her the greatest joy? Her five sons, whom she describes as “the light of my life.”

When asked to describe herself, Anestassia says with honesty and humor: “I’m just me. Sometimes I’m fun. Sometimes I’m boring. Sometimes I’m just cranky and hungry.” Her home is full of sports fans, too—she cheers for the Kansas City Chiefs, the Carolina Panthers, Mizzou, the St. Louis Cardinals, and, of course, the football teams her children play for at Shawnee Heights and Seaman. She’s also a big fan of Tyrann Mathieu.

We are grateful to have Anestassia as part of the Midland Care team—her kindness, humor, and dedication make a meaningful difference every day.
