For more than eight years, Charlene Esquibel has been a dedicated member of the Midland Care PACE team, bringing warmth, skill, and compassion to every participant she serves. With 26 years of nursing experience, Charlene’s career has spanned a wide range of healthcare settings—from pediatrics and psychiatric care to med-surg clinics, nursing homes, and hospitals. Before joining Midland Care, she worked for a pulmonologist and sleep specialist, gaining valuable clinical experience that continues to guide her work today.

Charlene earned her nursing education from Kaw Area Technical School (now Washburn Tech), where she graduated as valedictorian and received her IV certification—all while pregnant with her youngest child.

In her role as a PACE Community LPN, Charlene provides hands-on, in-home care to participants, including lab draws, IV therapy, medication management, wound care, fall and hospital follow-ups, vitals checks, and nail care. She also collaborates closely with the Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) to ensure every participant receives the highest quality of care.

“I love that I’m valued and that my opinion matters.”

Charlene’s leadership and care are deeply appreciated by her team. Assistant Clinical Nursing Director Trishelle Alexander shares: “Charlene’s attention to detail is unmatched, but what truly sets her apart is the heart she puts into her work. She shows up every day with compassion, dedication, and genuine love for people. The trust she’s built with her participants speaks to the exceptional care she provides—and we are incredibly fortunate to have her on our team.”

What Charlene values most about her work is being part of a team that helps seniors remain in their homes as long as possible. “I love knowing that my care makes a difference in their lives,” she shares. She also appreciates the flexibility, trust, and respect she feels at Midland Care. “I love that I’m valued and that my opinion matters. The care and compassion of my supervisor and co-workers mean so much.”

Originally born in Omaha, Charlene moved frequently as a child before her mother eventually settled in Topeka, where she now lives. Her five children and seven grandchildren keep her rooted in the area and fill her life with joy.

Outside of work, Charlene finds joy in her family, attending her grandchildren’s sporting events, swimming, reading, caring for plants, and participating in Bible study and church. Her faith and desire to help others inspire her daily—both personally and professionally. This deep-rooted faith and her commitment to helping others are the driving forces behind her work.

Charlene is not just a dedicated professional, but also a warm and caring individual. She describes herself as hardworking, dedicated, and caring, and says people often call her “Mom” because of her nurturing nature. Those around her describe her as reliable, accountable, and a go-getter who always goes above and beyond.

A sports fan at heart, Charlene cheers for the Kansas City Chiefs, the Philadelphia Eagles, and most of all, her grandchildren’s teams. Above all, Charlene finds purpose in caring for others. “I love being a mother and grandmother, and I believe nursing is my God-given gift. I try to keep God first in all situations,” she says. Her compassion, faith, and dedication make her an invaluable part of the Midland Care team.
