2026 March for Meals

A Month to Make a Difference

This March, we’re inviting the community to come together in support of Meals on Wheels — because this year, it couldn’t be more important.

Demand for Meals on Wheels has surged across our region, with more than 200 people currently on our waitlist. At the same time, we’re delivering hundreds of meals each day, completely free of charge to those in need.

Throughout March, we're calling on friends, neighbors, and supporters to help us do more — to get people off our waitlist and onto our service, ensuring that no one is left behind and giving life-changing assistance to seniors in need throughout our neighborhoods and communities.

Why it Matters

Last year, Midland Meals on Wheels delivered over 225,000 meals to more than 1,700 individuals across Shawnee, Jefferson, and Douglas counties, in addition to 15 congregate meal sites. Each weekday, we prepare about 1,200 meals, and volunteers fan out across more than 75 routes to deliver them with care and compassion.

But this is so much more than a meal.

Meals on Wheels helps older adults live independently and age in place — even when they are homebound, isolated, or facing financial hardship. The impact is profound:

  • 85% say it helps them stay in their own homes.
  • 80% say it’s their most important source of daily nutrition.
  • 45% say their delivery driver is their only or most meaningful personal interaction most days.

Right now, more than 200 people are waiting to join our program. We never want to turn someone away — and with your help, we won’t have to.

How You Can Help:

  • Make a gift! The most powerful way to help is by donating. Your gift helps us expand capacity, serve more people, and strengthen our program for the long term. During March, generous lead donors may even match or multiply your contribution.
  • Volunteer! More than 800 volunteers power Meals on Wheels each year — and we’re always looking for new faces. Volunteering is easy, convenient, and incredibly rewarding. Whether you're delivering a route, helping in the kitchen, or organizing a workplace or faith group to volunteer together, we’d love to have you. Visit our volunteer page to learn more.
  • Spread the word! During March, share our story with your network. Post on social media. Mention us at church or book club. Forward our newsletter to a friend. Pass along our messages. Your voice helps us reach the people who care — and people who care make all the difference.
